These 5 Renovation Trends Are Incredibly Popular in 2020

When you purchase a home, it seems like it’s never really finished. It requires consistent upkeep and updates to stay relevant with the current times to increase its value. Since you landed here, you’re at least daydreaming of updating your home and looking to see how you can improve it.

Ponce Design Build understands the importance of keeping your home current, comfortable, spacious and effective. We have put together a list of 5 renovation trends that people are using in 2020.

Surfaces and paint

1) Surfaces and paint are staying in the spotlight.

According to the Joint Center for Housing Studies, surfaces such as carpets, floors, paneling and ceiling tiles account for the majority of expenditures when it comes to renovation. 5 million homeowners spend an average of over $3,200 per year on stylish surfaces that are relevant for the times.

Additionally, paint companies are still performing incredibly well, according to the Wall Street Journal. Repainting walls, doors and shutters are among some of the most popular renovation trends out there today. Not only does repainting help with increasing your home’s value, but it can provide a much more pleasing aesthetic for each room.

Home wellness

2) Home wellness continues to surge.

As our world moves becomes more and more acclimated to the green initiative, the housing market continues to find ways to protect its longevity. Non-toxic materials, and water and air purification features are huge factors for millennials.

Climate-proofing has also become a huge trend, as extreme weather patterns take shape and concerns of climate change continue to rise. Features such as storm-proof windows and doors, cement pilings for a strong home foundation, and storm shutters are seeing an enormous amount of growth in popularity as of late. These features will make your home much more attractive to millennial buyers. Approximately 82 percent of millennials express worry about climate change, according to Suzanne Shelton, president and CEO of the Shelton Group.

Three-tone kitchens

3) Three-tone kitchens are here to stay.

Designers are currently building on the trend of two-tone kitchen cabinets accompanied with a different color island or flooring have become one of the biggest hits within the renovation scene in 2020. They create a stylish asymmetry in the palette that homeowners are loving more than ever before.

In a three-tone kitchen, one or more colors are featured, which helps create an intriguing contrast in the palette that keeps the eye moving and engaged. If you’re considering a kitchen remodel project, try a kitchen with white perimeter cabinets, a light wood island and a powder-blue hutch to create a relaxing and modern look and feel.

Wood cabinets

4) Wood cabinets are surging.

According to Houzz, we are on the cusp of a renaissance that includes full-wood kitchen cabinets. Many people are saying that it’s because of designers, artisans and cabinet makers who have masterfully illustrated how rich and diverse different woods and grain patterns are.

Quite possibly the most popular type of wood in 2020 is walnut. Walnut wood creates a smooth and natural, and warm surface and it pairs perfectly with a lot of popular modern kitchen colors, such as variations of white, gray, blue and brass.

Bathrooms Remodeling

5) Bathrooms have everyone’s attention.

This may be a little surprising to some, but according to HomeAdvisor, bathrooms are now the most common room for renovations and remodeling. Homeowners are mostly gravitating towards black-focused designs with smart technology and eco-friendly features.

Floral wallpaper is also still seeing popularity in powder bathrooms, specifically. While it’s certainly nothing new and for a short while it wasn’t used nearly as frequently, floral wallpaper has certainly made its comeback in 2020 and will continue to be popular for the next few years.

“Floral wallpaper has been around for years and you will continue to see the pretty pattern but with a much more modern update,” says interior designer Abbe Fenimore to Good Housekeeping. “Large scale, bold color and even metallic versions are here to stay.”
