5 Tips to Create the Perfect Home Theater and End 2020 the Right Way

It’s no secret that 2020 has been the strangest year in recent memory. As November draws to a close, it’s now been 9 months since the COVID-19 pandemic has officially halted our normal lives, forcing the overwhelming majority of the country to spend far more time at home and seek out higher quality entertainment. More and more people across the country have started looking into adding a home theater into their houses, especially now that we’re just a few days away from Black Friday weekend.

Are you considering building a home theater? It’s actually a lot more doable than you might think.

Like many of you, the team here at Ponce Design Build has spent a lot of time trying to find new ways to entertain ourselves at home. We found five trends that are taking over home theaters across America and would help you create an exciting new space for the family.

#1: An Epic TV

A high-definition TV should be one of the first things you think about when researching how to build a home theater, as it’s the focal point of the space and the main contributing factor in creating an unforgettable experience for you and your guests. A big movie projector is never a bad idea, but that isn’t the only option. We recommend the 65” Sony X9OOH 4K TV, an incredibly crisp flatscreen with plenty of width and perfect for watching the big game, or playing the brand new PS5.

#2: High-Quality Soundbar

You just can’t underestimate the magic of a good soundbar. There’s nothing more annoying than adjusting the TV volume several times an hour every time the washer or AC comes on. A soundbar does a fantastic job of creating a really clear sound all across the room and drowning out a bunch of distracting noises. Check out the Sony HT-G700 to match your Sony TV for a 5-star home theater experience.

#3: Automated Features

Automated lighting in a home theater

A perk that really brings out the pleasure of a home theater is convenience. Go with automated shades and lighting so you can quickly adjust the amount of sunlight coming through and how dim or bright you want the room to be. Automated smart lighting systems aren’t just great for an entertainment space, either. They can also be used for extra home security. For example, if you’re going out of town, you can set your lights to come on for brief periods of time, so you can create the illusion that you’re home, thus dissuading unwanted guests from entering.

#4: Sectional Seating

Sectional Seating for a home theater room

If you’re looking to have more of an interactive space for your family and guests, go with plush sectional seating. This will allow you to have a more functional and diverse room, in case you ever need to change the home theater into more of a casual hangout spot for when you have friends or relatives over. Sectional seating is a lot easier to move around, as opposed to actual movie theater chairs.

#5: Multimedia Remote

Multimedia Remote

You may have multiple remotes for all of your different devices, which can get incredibly confusing and frustrating, especially if you’re prone to losing track of them. A multimedia remote controls all of your devices at once, so you don’t have to keep up with several remotes. The Logitech Harmony Companion is an awesome remote that works with gadgets such as Alexa, Apple TV, Sonos, Roku, Hue, and more. Yes, it’s $150, which sounds like a fortune for just a remote, but with all the 5-star reviews it’s acquired and the level of convenience it provides, it’s hard to beat.
